G20 Summit: Prabowo Discussed Free Nutritious Meal Program in Indonesia

Rio de Janeiro, VIVA – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto shared the reasons behind initiating the free nutritious meal program during his speech at the first session of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Monday (Nov 18).

President Prabowo began by stating that hunger and poverty are real challenges for Indonesia, stated that 25 percent of Indonesian children experience hunger daily.

"Hunger and poverty are real issues for us every day. We still have a significant percentage of people living below the poverty line. Additionally, 25 percent of our children go hungry every day," said the President.

The head of state emphasized that addressing poverty and hunger is a vital national interest for a country like Indonesia. He believes one of the key ways to eradicate poverty and hunger is through education.

"Therefore, in my budget, I allocate a very high percentage for education. I firmly believe that education will lift us out of poverty. Education can bring a better life to our people," the president stated. 

President Prabowo also highlighted one of his campaign promises during the 2024 Presidential Election, the free nutritious meal program. Speaking to world leaders, he reaffirmed his belief that the program could address the issue of hunger. 

"Free meals for our children are an essential part of our strategy. It is also part of empowering our youth to understand the value of education. We're highly optimistic that we can overcome hunger in Indonesia," the head of state said.

President Prabowo expressed his gratitude for being part of the G20 Summit, which allowed him to discuss the pressing issues of poverty and hunger in Indonesia. 

"I want to extend my deepest gratitude to President Lula for his leadership. I also want to commend and praise President Lula for making poverty and hunger the focal points of this G20 session," he concluded.
