Jakarta, VIVA – The Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Anindya Novyan Bakrie, urged the national business community to expand trade access to the Philippines and other ASEAN member countries through the South China Sea.
"Kadin encourages businesses to open up broader access; it's the best way to expand our trade," said Bakrie in a statement in Jakarta on Friday (Oct 25).
He emphasized that all ASEAN member countries should enhance trade cooperation through the West Philippine Sea, which is part of the South China Sea.

Moreover, Bakrie also highlighted that ASEAN countries need to become more regionally integrated, particularly Indonesia and the Philippines, as half of Southeast Asia's population resides in these two nations.
"We’re not just talking about Indonesia’s 275 million people, but 750 million across ASEAN, so this event is excellent because it can boost investment," Bakrie stated.
Additionally, he highlightes that the South China Sea and the West Philippine Sea are sources of livelihood for local communities, making it crucial to prioritize peace in the region.
"We see that it's not only economically significant but also has substantial biodiversity, especially in marine life. Therefore, it’s essential to protect the South China Sea territory," he concluded.
