Jakarta, VIVA – The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) has announced plans to build the National Preparedness Center in the Jakarta area.
The Head of the BNPT General Bureau and Chairperson of the Technical Team for the National Readiness Center Development, Air Marshal TNI Fanfan Infansyah, stated that the presence of the National Readiness Center will play a strategic role in strengthening national preparedness and enhancing national resilience.
"This building will play a strategic role in strengthening national preparedness to face the threat of terrorism and in building national resilience as part of efforts to prevent and address the threat of terrorism," Infansyah said in Jakarta on Wednesday (Jan 1).
He explained that the construction of the building, which is planned to begin in 2025 in West Jakarta, will not only be a part of strengthening national preparedness but also part of BNPT's efforts to become a coordination center for returnees from rehabilitation.
The area will later serve as a center for assessment services, coordination of law enforcement agencies, counter-radicalization activities, and recovery for victims of terrorism-related crimes, he continued, as quoted from Antara.
"This building will also serve as a symbol of the integration of national strategies. The infrastructure to be built will not only strengthen preparedness but also become a center for coordination and rehabilitation of returnees," he remarked.
National preparedness center aims to provide a sense of security for Indonesian citizens, as outlined in the Preamble of the 1945 Constitution, which emphasizes protecting all of Indonesia's people and its territory.
This is interpreted as the state protecting all components that form the Indonesian nation, from the people to the values that must be preserved.
One of the measures of protection provided by the Government to its citizens is the enactment of Law No. 5 of 2018 on the Eradication of Terrorism, which serves as the legal framework for the government’s national preparedness in counterterrorism efforts.
National preparedness is carried out by the Government and coordinated by the BNPT, including in the aspect of community empowerment.
Under this legal framework, the BNPT is tasked with preventing terrorism through three key actions: national preparedness, counter-radicalization, and deradicalization.
National preparedness, as defined in the law, means ensuring that all elements of society are prepared for the threat of terrorism and the dangers of radical terrorist ideologies.
