Jakarta, VIVA – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has responded to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s statement about building a remote prison specifically for corruptors.
"KPK will always support the president’s initiative to combat corruption. Obviously, in its implementation, it will adhere to the applicable regulations," said KPK spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika on Wednesday (March 19).
Mahardhika emphasized that KPK, as an anti-corruption institution, will continue to follow legal procedures.
According to him, Prabowo Subianto’s statement serves as fresh motivation for the fight against corruption.
"What President Prabowo has conveyed is a strong signal that he is serious about eradicating corruption," he added.

Later, KPK will coordinate with relevant institutions and ministries if a special prison for corruptors is established.
"This also includes conducting further studies on the idea, involving experts and academics. Such a proposal requires extensive collaboration. We welcome President Prabowo’s statement positively, and we will wait to see how it is implemented," Mahardhika explained.
Earlier, President Prabowo Subianto announced plans to build a high-security prison on a remote island exclusively for corruptors.
"I will allocate funds to build a very secure prison in an isolated location, where corruptors cannot escape at night. We will find an island—if they try to escape, let them face the sharks," Prabowo stated.
The head of state also stressed that a country cannot progress as long as corruption persists. Therefore, he reaffirmed his commitment to fighting corrupt officials without hesitation.
This initiative highlights Prabowo’s strong stance on corruption and KPK’s readiness to support the government's anti-graft efforts. Whether this remote prison for corruptors becomes a reality remains to be seen.
