Russia, VIVA – Speaking at the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025, Bakrie said the geopolitical turmoil is not only disrupting global markets but also accelerating a shift in the global power balance.

“Roughly 40 to 50 percent of the discussions here revolved around the Iran-Israel tensions. It’s clearly the most pressing issue shaping the future of the world economy,” said Bakrie, who joined the international gathering alongside Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Kadin Chairman emphasized that the ongoing conflict highlights a growing divide between Western and Eastern powers, describing it as a symptom of deepening global polarization.

“We’re witnessing the crystallization of a multipolar world order. What’s happening between Iran and Israel doesn’t just affect regional stability — it’s reshaping the broader geopolitical and economic architecture," he remarked.

Anindya Bakrie also pointed to the rising influence of the BRICS bloc, now expanded to include 9 new member countries, among them Indonesia, Malaysia, and Kazakhstan.

“BRICS nations are home to nearly half the world’s population. That alone signals a monumental shift in global influence,” he stated.

In a keynote delivered at the forum, President Prabowo reiterated Indonesia’s unique development approach — positioning itself between the extremes of Western capitalism and Chinese-style socialism.

Bakrie praised this “hybrid” model, calling it a pragmatic solution aimed at inclusive prosperity.

“Indonesia is taking the middle path — one that isn’t purely capitalist nor socialist, but rather tailored to serve the greater good. We’re prioritizing policies that are inclusive and people-centric," he conveyed.

Turning to trade relations, Bakrie emphasized the need for Indonesia to maintain strategic autonomy in its dealings with major powers.

He cited the ongoing negotiations with the European Union under the IEU-CEPA framework as a key opportunity to expand economic cooperation beyond traditional partners.

“We can’t afford to be dictated to. Fortunately, we have alternatives — and IEU-CEPA is one of them. It opens doors to markets we’ve long overlooked,” he emphasized.

Closing his remarks, he highlighted Indonesia’s growing strategic weight on the global stage.

“We hold three crucial voices: as the only Southeast Asian country in the G20, the world’s largest Muslim-majority nation, and a key Indo-Pacific partner. That makes Indonesia a unique and influential player in today’s global order.” he concluded.
