Jakarta, VIVA – Indonesia has welcomed Russia's full support for the resumption and expansion of direct flights between Moscow and Denpasar, Bali, operated by Russian airline Aeroflot.

The new schedule will see the number of flights increased to three or four times per week.

This move follows a recent meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, which has been described as a strategic breakthrough in strengthening Indonesia’s global tourism appeal.

Member of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Rycko Menoza, emphasized that the decision to boost the frequency of direct Moscow–Bali flights is a concrete step toward improving connectivity between the two countries.

He noted that this enhanced air link will positively impact both Bali’s tourism sector and the broader Indonesian economy.

Earlier, direct flights between the two destinations were limited to a few times per month.

With the increased frequency, Russian tourists will have more convenient access to Bali, one of their preferred international destinations.

“Russian tourists are among the top-spending visitors, with a strong interest in exotic destinations, culture, and beaches like those found in Bali,” Menoza stated on Thursday (June 26).

He also highlighted the potential of other Indonesian tourism destinations to benefit from increased international exposure.

Citing his own region, Lampung, he mentioned attractions such as Mutun Beach, Pahawang Island—a haven for snorkeling and diving—Mount Krakatau, Tanjung Setia Beach, Ranau Lake, Wayang Island, and world-class surfing spots along the west coast.

Lampung’s improving accessibility through toll roads, ferries, and air travel further strengthens its tourism prospects.

Menoza called on the Ministry of Tourism to broaden its promotional efforts to include other top destinations like Labuan Bajo, Raja Ampat, and Yogyakarta, to ensure a more balanced and inclusive national tourism growth.

According to data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) and the Ministry of Tourism, Russian tourists contribute significantly to Bali’s foreign exchange earnings.

With more frequent flights, tourist arrivals from Russia are expected to rise sharply in the next 6 to 12 months.

“I hope the Ministry of Tourism will capitalize on this momentum by ensuring all tourism programs run effectively so the economic benefits reach local communities,” he conveyed.

He further noted that Indonesia–Russia cooperation in transportation and tourism goes beyond simply bringing in more tourists. It also opens doors for cultural exchange and mutually beneficial investment opportunities.

“Aeroflot has also committed to enhancing service quality, ensuring that tourists enjoy a safe and comfortable journey,” Menoza concluded.
