Jakarta, VIVA – President Prabowo Subianto has reaffirmed Indonesia's commitment to providing recovery aid to Myanmar and Thailand, both of which suffered severe impacts from a 7.7-magnitude earthquake.
The president also expressed his deepest condolences for the devastating earthquake that struck both nations.
"Indonesia stands ready to provide all necessary support for recovery efforts in the affected areas," the president stated in a post on his official X (@prabowo) on Saturday (March 29).
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of both countries during this difficult time," he added.

The 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck 13 km northwest of Sagaing, Myanmar, on Friday (March 28) at around 1 PM local time.

The tremors were reportedly felt strongly across central and northern Thailand, including Bangkok.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the initial earthquake was followed by a 6.4-magnitude aftershock just 12 minutes later.
As of now, at least 144 people have died, and hundreds have been injured in Myanmar, while in Thailand, at least six people have been killed, and 117 others remain trapped or missing after a skyscraper collapsed in Bangkok.
In response, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has declared Bangkok a disaster zone and ordered authorities to mobilize emergency response efforts.
Meanwhile, local media reports indicate that the earthquake caused significant damage to infrastructure in Mandalay, Myanmar, including the collapse of the Old Sagaing Bridge, cutting off access between Mandalay and Sagaing.
Myanmar's authorities have also declared a state of emergency.
