Jakarta, VIVA – The Indonesian Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, responded to six key demands raised by labor unions during the commemoration of International Workers' Day (May Day).
He emphasized that the government is already working on meeting these demands.
"I think some of these demands are already being addressed. For example, we’ve been focusing intensively over the past few weeks on formulating the right approach to mitigate layoffs," Hadi said at the National Monument in Central Jakarta on Thursday (May 1).

According to him, the government does not want to only step in after workers have been laid off. Solutions must be developed from the upstream level.
"Our goal is to design solutions from the root causes. So, when it comes to these demands, some are already being worked on," he said.
"Even if there are some among the six demands that haven’t yet been addressed, we will definitely follow up and review them together," the minister added.
Here are the six demands made by workers on May Day 2025:
Abolish outsourcing
Ensure decent wages
Establish a task force on layoffs
Pass the new Manpower Bill
Pass the Domestic Workers' Protection Bill
Pass the Asset Forfeiture Bill
