National Police Prioritize Traffic Security Ahead of Labor Day Rally

Jakarta, VIVA – The Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps has coordinated security preparations ahead of the International Labor Day (May Day) commemoration, which will be held by a coalition of Indonesian labor unions on Thursday (May 1).

Head of National Police Traffic Corps, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, stated that ensuring traffic route security is the main priority during the Labor Day commemoration, both through centralized systems and direct field escorts.

"All routes will be escorted, either through centralized control or direct vehicle escorts. The police traffic corps functions as support to strengthen existing security forces. Additionally, we must be able to implement technical security measures in each compartment," Suryonugroho said on Wednesday (Apr 30).

Presiden Republik Indonesia terpilih, Prabowo Subianto, dijadwalkan menghadiri peringatan Hari Buruh Internasional atau May Day 2025 yang akan digelar di kawasan Monumen Nasional (Monas), Jakarta Pusat, pada Kamis, 1 Mei 2025.

He emphasized that tight security must be a top priority, especially since President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to attend the May Day celebration in person for the first time.

The president’s attendance has made this year’s May Day security more crucial and has drawn direct attention from National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

"In all these years, this is the first time a president is attending. So, besides general route security, we are also preparing VVIP routes, which will be managed by the Jakarta Metropolitan Police," he said.

He then stressed that securing the event is not just an obligation but an honor that must be carried out with full responsibility from start to finish of the May Day celebration.

The International Labor Day (May Day) celebration is scheduled to take place at Monas Square, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (May 1).

Meanwhile, president of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) and Labor Party President, he estimated around 200,000 workers from Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, Depok, Bekasi, Karawang, Purwakarta, Serang, and Cilegon will attend the event.
