Jakarta, VIVA – Indonesian President, Prabowo Subianto, made a state visit to the Republic of Turkiye on Thursday (Apr 10).
This visit served as a reciprocal gesture following Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Indonesia in February 2025.
President Prabowo expressed his sincere appreciation for the warm welcome extended by President Erdogan and the Turkish government.
“Your Excellency, once again, I would like to express my deepest gratitude for the exceptional reception given to me and my delegation. It is truly an honor for us to make this reciprocal state visit to the Republic of Turkiye,” said President Prabowo in a joint press statement with President Erdogan.
He also extended his appreciation for President Erdogan’s earlier visit to Indonesia, which was made to attend the inaugural meeting of the High-Level Cooperation Council between the two countries.
President Prabowo stated that President Erdogan’s openness and encouragement had significantly strengthened the bilateral ties that have existed for 75 years.
“We’ve had diplomatic relations for 75 years, and now we are committed to working together more closely, especially as we share similar backgrounds and visions,” he said.
President Prabowo further emphasized the vital role that both Indonesia and Turkiye play in the global order as major nations in the Islamic world and as leaders of the Global South.

“We must be a positive force and a significant power in the Islamic world. It’s our joint responsibility, as leaders of the Global South and strategic partners in the global structure,” he asserted.
During this visit, President Prabowo also had the honor of delivering a speech before the Turkish Parliament, an occasion he described as personally meaningful.
“This was my first-ever speech before a foreign parliament. I was honestly very nervous, but thankfully, I managed to deliver it in a reasonable amount of time,” he said.
He added that the speech was not just a formality but a heartfelt message.
President Prabowo also expressed admiration for Turkish civilization and culture, and voiced hope for greater collaboration between Indonesia and Turkiye in promoting world peace.
“Turkiye, as the successor of the Ottoman civilization, is an inspiration to the Indonesian people. That’s why we are thrilled with the strong partnership we’re building. We believe that together, Turkiye and Indonesia can make a major contribution to global peace.” the head of state concluded.
