Jakarta, VIVA – The Head of the National Traffic Police Corps of the Indonesian National Police, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, has announced that the peak of the Eid homecoming return traffic is expected to occur on April 5 - 6.
To manage the surge, various traffic control measures, including contraflow and one-way schemes, will be implemented.
"The return traffic is predicted to peak on the 5th or 6th, so we must take strategic steps in coordination with all stakeholders to manage traffic flow effectively," Suryonugroho said on Wednesday (Apr 2).
The contraflow scheme will begin on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road, from KM 70 to KM 47. If traffic congestion remains high, it will be extended further to KM 36.

"Contraflow from KM 70 to KM 47 will be implemented first, and if necessary, we will extend it to KM 36. The decision will be based on real-time traffic data, including traffic counting parameters and visual ratio analysis conducted on-site," he explained.
The first phase of the local one-way scheme will cover the section from KM 188 in Palimanan to KM 70 in Cikatama, starting on April 3.
If traffic volume remains high on April 4, a second phase of contraflow will be enforced, extending from KM 246 to KM 188.
"On April 3, we will begin implementing a local one-way scheme. If the eastbound traffic toward Jakarta is still heavy on April 4, we will activate the second phase of contraflow, covering KM 246 to KM 188," Suryonuhroho added.
If congestion persists on April 5, the local one-way scheme will be extended further.
Meanwhile, on April 6, a national one-way scheme will be implemented.
"If the return traffic remains high on April 5, we will extend the one-way scheme—possibly starting from Batang or KM 414. Then, on April 6, the national one-way scheme will be officially launched by the National Police Chief and the Minister of Transportation in the morning," he confirmed.
As a precaution, Suryonugroho urges travelers to prepare optimally for their return journey.
"We advise Lebaran travelers to plan their trips carefully, maintain their health, and ensure their vehicles are in good condition to ensure a safe journey home," he concluded.
