Jakarta, VIVA – Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono announced that the government is preparing a land evacuation plan for Indonesian citizens currently in Iran, following the inof conflict between Iran and Israel over the past two days.

“Flights can’t go there. The only option is by land,” minister Sugiono said during his visit to St. Petersburg, Russia on Wednesday (June 18).

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, approximately 380 Indonesians are currently in Iran, most of them residing in the capital, Tehran.

The Indonesian government has assessed that the situation is becoming increasingly volatile, with the frequency of attacks rising and now targeting not only military installations but also civilian areas.

As a precautionary step, the Ministry has instructed the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran to assess the feasibility of evacuation and implement contingency measures.

The embassy’s alert status has also been raised from Level 2 to Level 1—the highest level of readiness.

Minister Sugiono said that Indonesia has already communicated with Iran’s neighboring countries to ensure border crossings can be facilitated if an evacuation becomes necessary.

“We’ve reached out to neighboring countries, asking that our citizens be granted access to cross borders during a possible evacuation, given how unfavorable the situation is becoming,” he stated.

The Ministry has also established intensive communication with all Indonesian nationals in Iran to ensure they remain in contact with the Indonesian Embassy, so they can respond quickly if evacuation procedures are activated.

The minister added that foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) are scheduled to hold an emergency conference in Istanbul, Turkey, on Saturday, June 21, to discuss the growing Iran-Israel conflict.

Since June 13, 2025, Israel has launched large-scale attacks on Iran, reportedly targeting nuclear facilities in multiple cities as well as key military command centers.tensify
