Indonesia, Thailand Set to Boost Trade Beyond US$18 Billion

Thailand, VIVA – President Prabowo Subianto has expressed his intention to further increase trade between Indonesia and Thailand, as current bilateral trade between the two countries has reached US$18 billion or IDR 293,9 trillion.

"We have achieved bilateral trade of up to US$18 billion, but we want to increase this further," the head of state said in Bangkok, Thailand on Monday (May 19).

During the meeting, President Prabowo stated that he and Paetongtarn agreed to strengthen trade and investment ties.

The president and Paetongtarn also agreed to enhance development and standardization in the halal industry and the digital economy, particularly in fintech, e-commerce, and infrastructure sectors.

"We're also committed to holding the first Joint Trade Commission in the near future and enhancing cooperation between Thai investment agencies and Danantara, Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund. We also welcome cooperation in the aviation sector and joint development of technology in this field," he added.

Meanwhile, Thailand PM Paetongtarn also expressed her agreement to boost bilateral trade between the two countries. She emphasized that Indonesia and Thailand share large market potential and close relations.

"There are many opportunities for growth that would benefit both countries as well as the broader ASEAN region. Therefore, Thailand is ready to host the first Joint Trade Committee meeting this year to discuss ways to achieve these goals," she stated.
