Jakarta, VIVA – Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed deep concern over the rising tensions between India and Pakistan following a missile strike launched by India on Pakistani territory.

The Indonesian Foreign Ministry urged both nations to exercise restraint and prioritize dialogue in resolving the ongoing crisis.

"The Indonesian government is closely monitoring developments between India and Pakistan. Indonesia urges both sides to exercise restraint and prioritize dialogue in resolving the crisis," stated the Ministry on Wednesday (May 7).

In response to the escalating situation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a special advisory for Indonesian citizens currently residing in either India or Pakistan.

This measure is taken as a precaution to ensure the safety of Indonesian nationals amid the potential conflict.

"For Indonesian citizens in both countries, please remain alert and avoid traveling to affected areas or places that could be potential conflict targets," the Ministry warned.

The Ministry's statement followed India’s announcement on Tuesday (May 6), claiming it had launched missile strikes on several cities in Pakistan and the Pakistan-administered Kashmir region.

In a press release yesterday, the Indian Embassy in Jakarta stated that the attack only targeted "known terrorist camps" and denied striking any civilian, economic, or military sites in Pakistan.

"No civilian, economic, or military targets in Pakistan were attacked. Only known terrorist camps were the focus," the Embassy stated.

They also described India's action as a "focused and precise" step taken in a measured and responsible manner to avoid escalation.

India claims to have evidence of Pakistan-based terrorists being involved in the April 22 attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 people.

On the other hand, Pakistani military spokesperson Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry reported that India’s missile attack had killed at least eight people, injured 35 others, and left two missing.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned India’s action as a "cowardly attack" and an "act of war," vowing a "proportionate response."

The escalation between these two nuclear-armed neighbors has raised concerns in the region and across the international community. Calls for restraint and dialogue—like the one issued by the Indonesian Foreign Ministry—are crucial to preventing a broader and more devastating conflict.

The Indonesian government continues to monitor the situation and hopes that diplomatic efforts can soon be made to de-escalate the tension between India and Pakistan.
